BS9999: 2017 gives recommendations and guidance on the design, management and use of buildings to achieve reasonable standards of fire safety for all people in and
around them. It also provides guidance on the on-going management of fire safety within a building throughout its entire life cycle, including guidance for designers to
ensure that the overall design of a building assists and enhances the management of fire safety.
In conjunction with BS9990: 2015 & BS9991: 2015, this provides a framework of service and maintenance requirements for fire safety in most types of buildings by competent
personnel but not the specific standards for individual types of systems.
For Active Fire Barriers - Fire Curtains – BS8524-2: 2013. This is the Code of Practice for
maintenance.
Automatic Smoke Curtains have EN12101-1: 2005+ A1: 2006.
Smoke Extract Systems have BS7346-8: 2013 as well as elements of Approved Document B: 2006 and as guidance within the BS9999: 2017 suite.
